Using the same information, they are also generating false residential documents to obtain drivers’ licenses.
Those driver’s licenses would then be forwarded to out of state addresses.
The unsuspecting homeowners will receive a notice from the Post Office about the request submitted for the mail to be forwarded for unknown individuals. It is important that homeowners respond to the notice or the request will be honored by the U.S. Post Office and the mail will be forwarded.
“We are working closely with state and federal law enforcement officials, including the U.S. Postal Service, to prevent this crime.” said Rick Homans, Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department.
