Information from the BBB of Central Indiana: The BBB of Central Indiana encourages all fans and potential Super Bowl attendees to use caution when purchasing, or attempting to purchase, tickets or tour packages for the big game.
“Scam artists understand the emotions and excitement that Colts fans are currently enjoying and they look to take advantage of these situations,” said Bill Thomas, President/CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana. “Before choosing an online ticket broker or reseller, make sure your purchase is 100% guaranteed.”
Other tips for purchasing Super Bowl tickets include:
· Deal with a reputable, local company that has a track record with Bowl game packages and ticket sales.
· Research any company you might do business with at bbb.org.
· Avoid buying tickets from new eBay sellers, sellers who say they’ll have eBay send you “verification” or sellers not located in the U.S.
· Use a credit card or PayPal for your purchases as they offer additional protection if the offer falls short and provides a means to track your purchase.
· Make sure the website where you buy tickets is secure and reputable. Look for a seal of approval from the BBB or similar organizations.
· Read all the fine print and be sure to verify the ticket delivery dates.
In addition, the BBB encourages consumers to watch out for travel package deals that may “include” Super Bowl tickets. Package prices may be severely inflated to accommodate the purchase of tickets, while other aspects of the package may be below expectations.
Other Tips for purchasing Super Bowl tour packages include:
· Get all the details in writing, including price, cancellation penalties and all of the other specifics of the package, including the name of the hotel, the airlines, etc.
· Verify that your travel package includes guaranteed tickets to the Super Bowl game.
· Independently verify your travel arrangements, including your flight and hotel reservations. Then, follow up with your travel promoter a few days before departure to confirm reservations.
· The “Truth in Ticketing” law requires that travel promoters who advertise Super Bowl packages that include tickets must either have the tickets in hand, or have a written contract to receive them. The rule states that travel operators must pay full refunds to consumers when they sell a travel package that includes game tickets, but fail to provide the game tickets. These refunds must cover the full price paid for the package, including airfare and hotel rooms. To check out a business or company log on to BBB.org.
