Horse Killings and Mutilations spike across South Florida

Information from CrimeStoppersMiami.com:  Horse killings and mutilations are on the rise in Miami-Dade (and Broward) counties.  This is an on-going problem that has spiked in recent months.

horse1Authorities are investigating over a dozen horse killings that have been reported since June 2009 in which the animals appear to have been butchered for their meat.  It is believed that the horse meat is being sold on the black market for $20/lb. and higher.  Buying or selling horse meat is illegal in South Florida.

The illegally butchered animals were given steroids, tranquilizers, and antibiotics on a regular basis so their meat is toxic to people.
