Information from the Roanoke Police Department: Teams of investigators with the Roanoke Police Department, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and consultants with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) are working 24 hours a day in the search for Aveion M. Lewis.
The Roanoke Police Department has received more than 150 tips or leads throughout Virginia and outside of the state. Police are following up on all tips and leads. Information received is maintained in a FBI computer software database located in the Roanoke Police Department’s command center.
The Police Department is also utilizing FBI specialists. Today, investigative teams are returning to the area where the incident occurred to continue the investigation. Police are also continuing their search for the suspect vehicle. Some of the details of the investigation include:
- Conducted multiple ground searches in the area where the abduction occurred to include a nearby wooded area and the banks of the Roanoke River. An FBI evidence recovery team has been utilized, along with Police K-9’s, and officers searching with handheld thermal devices.
- Conducted an aerial search utilizing a helicopter belonging to the Virginia State Police that has the capability of locating a person on the ground by detecting their body heat.
- Conducted multiple canvases of the area going door to door to speak with residents. Police have asked for consent searches of surrounding apartments and have requested that residents complete questionnaires. Residents have been extremely cooperative and police have received an overwhelming response.
- Conducted a traffic checkpoint to speak with motorists in an effort to gather additional information.
Citizens should also remain aware of the suspects’ description and the description of the suspect vehicle, and report any potential sightings. The suspects are described as three black males. The first male is described as a black male with a dark complexion. His age is estimated as late 20’s. He is approximately six feet two inches in height with a medium build. He has a full beard and was wearing all black clothing. The clothing included a black hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket with fur around the hood, and a black scarf on his head. The second suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion. His age is estimated as late 20’s. He is approximately five feet 11 inches in height with a medium to muscular build. He wore a dread lock hair style and his eyes were described as small or slanted. He wore a red Saint Louis Cardinals baseball cap. The third suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion. His age is estimated as early 20’s. He is five feet 11 inches in height with a thin build. He wore a brown kit cap with a rim and white writing on it, a white shirt, and blue jeans. The suspects are possibly traveling in a1990’s white chevy blazer.
The Roanoke Police Department cannot release additional details, since the release of such information could hinder the investigation. The department has received cooperation from callers providing tips, as well as police agencies throughout Virginia.
