Information from the Morgan Hill Police Department: On 12/15/09 at approximately 6:50 a.m. Morgan Hill Police received a 9-1-1 call from a worker at a construction site in the area of Cochrane Rd. and Mission View Dr. alerting police that a female jogger had been attacked and sexually assaulted while jogging between the hours of 6:15- 6:30 a.m. The victim remained at the construction site until police arrived.
Based on the information obtained during the initial phase of the investigation the victim, a 45 year old female resident of Morgan Hill, indicated that she frequently jogs southbound Mission View Dr. between Cochrane and Half Rd. in the early morning hours. On today’s date she was jogging southbound on the west side of the roadway near an open field and an orchard when she noticed a male subject jogging northbound on Mission View on the east side of the roadway. The male jogged past her. Suddenly the victim heard footsteps behind her and felt the male suspect grab her around the upper body with one arm. In the other hand he held what the victim believed to be scissors to her neck. Due to the predawn darkness the victim was not able to clearly see the suspect’s face.
The suspect pulled the victim into the orchard and sexually assaulted her. After approximately 10 minutes the suspect fled the scene southeast through the orchard. At that time the victim regained some composure and ran northbound toward the construction site near the DePaul Medical Center on the corner of Cochrane Rd. and Mission View Dr. Police arrived on scene shortly thereafter and canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Witnesses to the attack have not been identified at this time. The victim was transported to Valley Health center in Gilroy for treatment.
This investigation is ongoing. The suspect is described as a male of slight build, 5’8-5’10 possibly 135-150 lbs. He is believed to be approximately 17-25 years old. The suspect spoke English with what the victim believed to be a Spanish accent. At the time of the assault he was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and baggie dark pants. He possibly has short hair.
